The
Nancy Ellis Literary Agency is marking its 30th year of serving authors
and publishers in the areas of non-fiction, fiction and children's literature.
Originally started as an adjunct to her collegiate creative writing
program, the Agency has produced award-winning and bestselling authors
with 63 titles still in print. Traditionally, at least fifty percent
of those authors have been debut launches; it was for this reason that
Writers Digest named Nancy one of the top 25 agents in the country.
Today,
in addition to launching new careers, the Agency also emphasizes career
expansion for New York Times Bestselling authors and others with strong
publishing track records. The current list emphasizes non-fiction which
offers a measure of transformation for the reader, regardless of category.
With fiction, the challenges of the industry for debut novelists mandate
that with rare exception we are seeking only those with publishing credits.
For children's literature we are only representing current clients.
Our film relationships continue as always, both for major film and television.
Over
the past eleven years, we have both participated in and sponsored writers'
conferences and workshops. In the future, we are planning to sponsor
one conference per year in order to serve the needs of aspiring authors
who would otherwise not have direct access to editors, agents and authors.
We will announce that first conference in the Fall of 2007.
Beyond
sales and conferences, the Agency also offers other services to writers
published or in the process of being published. These services include
style editing for both fiction and non-fiction, novel construction,
proposal preparation, website development, and promotional data base
research. Additional information is available from our Office Manager,
Maureen Moore in our downtown office: 707.456.9441 or bulldog@mcn.org.
As
we move toward 2008, our continuing mission is to help writers achieve
not just a sale but a career. There will always be a need for good books;
we are committed to addressing that need.
